    Settlers started ariveing in the 1880s incuding a man who started home steading on his 160 acers the legal amount of land at that time by the name of g George A. Townsend. Like almost all towns the provided something their choice was letuce heads in the 1020s. By the 1940s most of these homesteading familys had left Avon but the decending family members of William Nottingham stayed and had control of the great percentage in Avon

    My personal experiance when my father and I staid in avon we stayed at a confort inn we did not have to worry about driving to the resorts. Their is multiple bus's that take you as well that their is restaurants and stores within a walking distance from almost all of the hotels so you don't need a car for the most part. This is a major tourist attraction so it is very populated beetween tourist and resident.
